London Streets : The Monopoly Project
2016 : 10th Anniversary
London Streets : The Monopoly Project started in early 2016. It was my first photographic project. It taught me about projects; beginnings, middles and ends. It showed me that projects give you space. Space to expand, to show more and even to add words and details that would be not be possible in a single image. But above all it taught me that to be interesting (both for me and others) a project needs a purpose, some reason to create, something worth devoting your time and effort to, something worth telling stories about.
A project is very different to a single image, or even a collection of images and the core of that difference is purpose. Maybe the purpose is the story you want to tell, the moments you need to capture, or the lessons you need to learn.
This project had it all and in this 10th Anniversary year I have had the time to think in depth about the project; to be realistic about what I learned, what worked well and maybe what I could have done better.
So here you are, the full project from beginning to end. The photos, the words, the locations and the stories.
Enjoy, and don't forget to read the project overview, where you will find the reason behind the project and the rules I decided on before I started.
