London Streets:
The Monopoly Project
A year long project visiting 40 Monopoly locations around London. This talk covers how the project was conceived, and my approach to taking, editing, and sequencing images.
It also explores some of the stories that unfolded during the project; from a drug deal in the West End to why there was a Czech Army tank just off the Old Kent Road.
We’ll also look at the life of the project after the photography was complete, including exhibitions, talks, workshops, and photobooks.
30 days, 10 Countries:
20 Photographs
How do you make photographic sense of an extreme travel holiday?
Spending a month travelling through Europe by rail is not everyone’s idea of fun. But for me, it was a joy made all the sweeter after multiple periods of lockdown and travel restrictions.
From disused industrial sites in Germany to the city walls of Dubrovnik, each location has something special to offer. Join me as I strap on my rucksack and set off on an adventure!
Street Photography:
An Introduction
Being on the street with nothing but a camera, a few ideas, and an open mind.
No better way to spend a day!
But many people are wary of street photography, worrying about confrontations, technique, and the law… and that’s before you even stop to consider the ethics!
Don’t worry, with a little thought and consideration, it can be great fun.
We will look at how street photography has developed, where it might be going next, and how best to approach the street with your camera.
Photography:
Moving Towards Projects
Many photographers excel in creating great single images that can perform well in competitions. Others prefer to take a broader perspective and work within projects and image collections.
This talk explores some of the opportunities and issues we face as we begin to shift towards photography that focuses on projects and collections.
In addition to the challenges, there are also great opportunities to showcase your work through exhibitions, talks, and publications.
Photography:
Four Thoughts
A thought provoking discussion about how and why we take photographs.
Over time, the thoughts change to include the new ideas and issues currently on my mind.
A few examples include:
1. What's in your photo toolbox?
Technique, craft & intention.
2. Are competitions helpful?
What are the alternatives?
3. Photographers vs. musicians? Paul McCartney or Principal Violin at the LSO.
4. Developing as a photographer.
Moving forward without buying new kit.
