London Streets : The Monopoly Project
Old Kent Road (January 2016)
The game of Monopoly starts at Go! But this has no obvious location within London. After a bit of googling I learn that the location of Go is Lambeth North tube station (according to the Ordnance Survey). Doesn't sound too convincing to me, but it proved an interesting location to start my photographic journey around London's Monopoly board locations.
Lambeth North is a dirty and pretty unloved station languishing south of the river. But it is close to the Imperial War Museum and a good starting point for a visit to the Lee Miller "A Woman's War" exhibition (back in 2016, when this was originally written!).
If black and white grime photography is your thing then Lambeth North station is well worth a visit.
My goal was to make 3 photos to be shown as a triptych to show something interesting about Lambeth North station, Go!
I spent about an hour in the depths of the station, getting a feel for the location and what was going on. My overwhelming feeling was that the station was dirty and neglected, but it had a certain charm and I enjoyed trying to bring that out in my triptych images.
So, what am I trying to show here? Just that the underground station is a neglected and not very welcoming location; though it's charm was hard to escape, deep below London's busy streets.

You can find Lambeth Noth Underground between Waterloo Station and the Imperial War Museum.
