London streets : The Monopoly project
This talk explores a year-long photography project visiting 40 Monopoly locations around London.
The talk covers why the project was started and my approach to taking, editing and sequencing images.
It also explores some of the stories that unfolded during the project; from a drugs deal in the West End to why there was a Czech Army tank just off the Old Kent Road.
Lastly, it looks at the life the project took on after the photography had finished, including popular blogposts, giving talks, having exhibitions and creating a magazine.

Street photography : An introduction
Being on the street with nothing but a camera and an open mind. No better way to spend a day! But many photographers are wary of photographing on the street, worrying about confrontations, the law and technique.... and that's before you stop to consider the ethics of it all. But don't worry, with a little thought and consideration it's actually great fun!
From its early days in Paris and glory days of New York through to today’s vibrant UK scene, we will look at how street photography has developed and where it might be going next. We will explore the practice of street photography, which often involves quick thinking and having your camera ready to go as the scene unfolds before your eyes.
Finally we will consider the legal and ethical issues involved in street photography.

How to make photographic sense of an extreme travel holiday?
Spending a month travelling through Europe on the railways is not everyone's idea of fun.
But for me it was a joy that was all the sweeter after multiple periods of lockdown and travel restrictions.
From disused industrial sites in Germany to the city walls of Dubrovnik each location had something special to offer.
But I am no travel photographer, so my 20 chosen pictures ended more personal interest than travel brochure cover.
Join me as I put on the ruck sack, leave a few cameras at home and attempt to give an impression of the joys we found.

Photography : Four thoughts
An interactive, thought provoking discussion about how and why we take photographs.
Thought 1: Do genres & classification really help our photography?
Thought 2: Nature usually wins
Thought 3: Photographers vs. musicians
Thought 4: Developing as photographers
This talk is a little out of the usual. It looks at how and why we photograph and how to avoid limiting our creativity.

The camera never lies, but the photographer might!
Please note: This talk was originally created for St. John Ambulance Cadets, Guildford in 2019.
It used to be said that the camera never lies, but in these days of fake news, AI and Photoshop it's wise to think about the truth of the images we see. From Facebook and Instagram to Fox News and the Daily Mail, can we be sure that what we are looking at is a real and true representation of what it claims to be. This talk looks at a wide variety of images from past and current media to explore the challenges of staying on top of reality when it comes to images and what they claim to show.
The talk is available free of charge to local groups aimed at teenagers.
