ONE-TO-ONE tuition
Sometimes it needs to be all about you. If there is a photographic subject, technique or idea you want to explore in detail, without interruption, then this is the format for you. One-to-one sessions accelerate your learning so you can understand what you really need to know. Prior to each session we will agree what it is you want to achieve, so that I can tailor the time to meet your needs. My approach is to provide you with real understanding and photographic direction; to treat the camera as a tool which you are in control of, that supports the craft of photography so your are free to create your photographic art.
Past one-to-one sessions have included: - Getting to grips with my camera (understanding and use of the features that matter, and those that don't) - Street photography (both in Surrey and London based) - Movement and long exposure - Entering photography competitions (what is a judge looking for) - Image processing (from camera to print/screen/web output) If you have specific requirements or questions please click here to get in touch so we can have a chat. |

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS
My workshops offers a mixture of instruction, photography and image review. Individual time will be available within the workshop to help you get to grips with your photographic challenges.
Current course dates and locations can be found on www.GuildfordPhotography.com, and on www.LondonStreet.Photography where bookings may also be made. Better street photography: A workshop exploring a range of possibilities under the umbrella of street photography. My personal favourite definition is that of Bruce Gilden, who said that "if you can smell the street by looking at the photo, then it's a street photograph". But, if you ask a number of photographers what they consider to be street photography, you get a wide variety of answers. For some the images must be of candid unposed people, for others it's more to do with the environment and for some their only interest is in posed street portraits. I prefer to think of it all as street photography and would rather look to find great images, rather than worry about what we call them. On this half day "Better street photography" workshop we will explore some of the different types of street photography opportunities right in the heart of London. We sill start outside Tate Modern and work our way into the City and take in some of the sights (high and low) as we work our way through some great photographic locations. We will end up at the Barbican where we will have a chance to photograph the brutalist architecture and the more personal elements it holds. The workshop is a mixture of instruction, discussion, mini assignment and image review. Next workshop To be arranged (post Coronavirus). Half and full day options available. Cost £125 full day and £65 half day per person. London: The Long Night Out : Night photography in the Capital. We start as the day draws to and end and work through the night until it's light again. You will need a certain amount of stamina for this one, but the rewards make it well worth the effort. It is always interesting and often quite surprising what you see in the middle of the night when you would think that the city would be at it's quietest. We visit a fairly wide ranging of locations, starting with sunset from Waterloo Bridge and then moving on to the South Bank, up into the busy heart of the West End before heading east to City of London. Finally we will make our way back to Waterloo to photograph the sun rise above the city. We use a mixture of transport options. There is a fair amount of walking involved but we do use the tube to get from the West End to the City and then a night bus (if we need it) to get back to Waterloo. Don't worry about food and drink, I've done a few London all-night shoots and know that it's important to stop every couple of hours for a sit down; to review progress, understand what's next, have a hot drink and a bite to eat. Next workshop To be arranged (post Coronavirus). Usually Saturday 9pm to 5am on Sunday morning. Cost £125 per person. iPhone photography : A workshop to get the best from the camera that’s always with us. We will explore a variety of options available within the standard iPhone camera software and a number of available apps. Using these we will learn how to take, process and share better pictures from our iPhones. The workshop is be a mix of discussion, demonstration and picture taking and is suitable for any Apple iPhone or iPad models (available features do vary from model to model). The course is not suitable for any other types of smart phones / tablets (e.g. Android / Windows). Next workshop To be arranged (post Coronavirus). Half day, usually 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm. Cost £65 per person. iPhone photography for social media : A workshop designed to use the iPhone as a key part of your social media workflow. We will look at how to taking engaging images and then how to edit them in a consistent way to give a coherent feel for your media feed. We will also look at some of the many ways to post your images both manually and automatically. The workshop is be a mix of discussion, demonstration and you should leave with a variety of skills and ideas which will boost your on-line activity. The workshop is suitable for any Apple iPhone or iPad models (available features do vary from model to model). The course is not suitable for any other types of smart phones / tablets (e.g. Android / Windows). To be arranged (post Coronavirus). Half day, usually 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm. Cost £65 per person. Monopoly London : A days photography in London concentrating on one of the sets of Monopoly locations. My current favourites are: Brown : From Old Kent Road to Whitechapel Road, via Community Chest. Light Blue : Taking in Angel Islington and Euston Road, via Pentonville Road and Chance. Green : The west end explored through Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street. Dark Blue : Going up market taking in Park Lane, Mayfair and the surrounding areas. Other sets available, please ask. To be arranged (post Coronavirus). Full day. Cost £125 per person. Movement (ICM) and Long Exposure Day : This workshop is offered either in London or on the South Coast. Previous locations have included Margate, Rye and Dungeness, Brighton and Chichester (Wittering or Bosham). We spend the day working with various slow shutter speeds to achieve a variety of photographic effects. From very long exposures (using very dark ND filters) through to more normal (but still slow) exposures to capture movement within our images. We will use this movement to provide both ICM (intentional camera movement) and more normal motion blur as well as long exposure drama, with set clouds and milky seas. Note: ND filters and tripods may be borrowed free of charge on the day, subject to prior arrangement. Filter sets may also be bought in advance and can be delivered on the day (again we will need to know in advance so we can ensure the right sizes). To be arranged (post Coronavirus). Full day. Cost £125 per person. If would like to book a course for your club, organisation or group of friends (minimum 4 people) then please get in touch. If you would like to book a place on an open course then the current courses and dates can be found on www.GuildfordPhotography.com, or at www.LondonStreet.photography web sites. If you have any questions about the workshops please click here to get in touch so we can have a chat. |
